Meet Amelia
Amelia Hessel, M.H.Sc., CCC-SLP
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist
I am a speech therapist with a passion for helping others achieve communication success no matter their age or diagnosis. It makes my heart sing when I can help a child say their first sentence, a brain injury survivor finally return to work, a stroke survivor say "I love you" to their spouse again, or a teenager gain the confidence to interact in social situations. I consider myself a problem-solver, and I aim to restore hope, build confidence, and offer a vision for the future throughout the therapy process.
My work experience has come from a variety of settings including private practice, school boards, daycares, in- and out-patient rehab, the acute care hospital environment, long-term care facilities, and home care. Over the years, I have pursued continuing education and training in many of the most widely recognized, sought-after, and evidence-based treatment methods in the field of Speech-Language Pathology. After moving to Texas, I started Bluebell Speech and Language Services to provide high-quality speech and language therapy services to individuals in their homes, online, and in local schools.
I am deeply invested in each of my clients, and I adopt their goals as my goals. I take great care to listen, understand their fears and concerns, and uncover their strengths, interests, joys, and passions. My belief is that each person’s strengths can help them triumph over their challenges, and it gives me great joy to help my clients gain confidence in their communication skills.
Personally, I love spending time in nature– going for walks with my two dogs, fishing, climbing trees, being out on the water, and helping all the plants in my garden grow. At home, I enjoy singing, playing and listening to music, and cooking!
Evaluation & Therapy Services
We specialize in the assessment and treatment of both pediatric and adult communication disorders.
Speech
Articulation - Motor Speech - Voice - Fluency
We think about speech as a fluid series of mouth movements instead of focusing on one sound at a time. Using our advanced training in "PROMPT"– a tried and true speech therapy technique– we will guide you to produce sounds accurately and flow easily from one sound to the next. Our speech therapy sessions can also support you in improving your voice quality, speaking fluently with less stuttering, and strengthening your respiratory system to speak loudly and clearly. Our goal is to help you achieve your goals!
Language
Language Development - Aphasia - Reading - Writing - AAC
We support language skills in children as young as 18 months and adults of any age. Adult therapy sessions are geared toward your individual goals and may include support with word-finding or conversational participation. Our early language therapy sessions are guided by the “It Takes Two to Talk" program, which supports parents in learning strategies to help their child communicate. We also help school-aged children read and spell through a phonological awareness approach and teach them to understand and express themselves more effectively in social and academic settings.
Executive Functioning
Memory - Cognitive Functioning -
Life Management Skills
Executive functioning skills are essential in achieving success at school, at work, and in your personal life. We will determine where you or your child are having difficulty and tailor our therapy to build new skills such as organization, time management, memory & focus, self-control, attention, and/or persevering in the face of challenges. We will also provide you with functional and effective tools to help you overcome obstacles and achieve your goals.
Social Skills
Social Communication - Pragmatic Language - Vocational Soft Skills
Social communication helps develop and maintain meaningful relationships and enables participation at school and work. We can help with understanding non-verbal communication, social cues, humor, and emotions, as well as making friends, problem-solving, and building self-advocacy skills. Our team will increase your confidence, focusing on skills that will have a direct impact on your daily life, in a supportive and non-judgmental setting so you can navigate any social situation.
Getting started with us is easy!
If you are interested in learning more about our services or are ready to schedule an evaluation, below is our process from the first call to starting therapy. We look forward to meeting you!
STEP ONE
We will begin with a free phone consultation to talk about your concerns, answer questions, and explain our process. During this call, we will also get you scheduled for an evaluation.
STEP TWO
During the evaluation appointment, we will take time to get to know you and/or your child. We will evaluate relevant skills using a variety of tools and tests. Our goal is to understand both strengths and areas of need.
STEP THREE
After the evaluation, we will go over the results. Together, we will make a therapy plan with goals that will help you or your child develop new skills, and experience success where it is most important (e.g., at home, at school, at work, and in social situations).
We Go Where You Are!
We offer services in-home, in the community (e.g., daycares, preschools), and via teletherapy. We also offer contract services to local schools.
